Preeminent Cal/OSHA Attorney, Rachel Conn, Joins Conn Maciel Carey as Chair of the Firm’s California Practice

Conn Maciel Carey LLP (CMC), a boutique law firm with national practices in Workplace Safety – OSHA/MSHA, labor and employment, and litigation, is delighted to announce that attorney Rachel L. Conn has joined the firm’s San Francisco, CA office as Chair of the California Practice.

Ms. Conn comes to CMC from Nixon Peabody, where she was the Head of the OSHA Practice. At CMC, Ms. Conn will lead the team representing California and national employers in inspections, investigations and enforcement actions involving Cal/OSHA, Federal OSHA, and other State OSH Plans, especially the West Coast DOSH states. With strong experience in labor and employment law, she will also help lead the California labor and employment defense practice.

“I am so excited to join a firm with such an exceptional national reputation for OSHA defense,” Ms. Conn says. “CMC is recognized by the employer community as being among the top firms for OSHA support.”

CMC’s OSHA Chair Eric J. Conn adds:

“I could not be more thrilled to have the estimable Rachel Conn on our OSHA Team. She is the absolute best-of-the-best among the Cal/OSHA defense bar.”

Throughout her career, Ms. Conn has created effective, creative solutions and the best outcomes for her clients. She has successfully defended sophisticated national employers against Cal/OSHA citations and investigations and has developed safety and workplace violence response programs. In California, she was the first attorney to litigate COVID-19 citations.

“She has experience that fits our strategic plan,” Co-Managing Partner Aaron Gelb says. “So many of our clients have major operations in California, and Rachel is so highly regarded there by employers and by Cal/OSHA.”

The firm is expanding its California practice, and Ms. Conn will play a significant role in this effort.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with an exceptional team and the strong California practitioners already at CMC to solidify the west coast practice,” she says.

Ms. Conn is considered a thought leader in her field and is often quoted in trade journals and other publications. The San Francisco Business Times chose her as a “40 under 40” honoree.

“With Rachel’s extraordinary experience and reputation on the west coast, there can be no reasonable doubt that Conn Maciel Carey has become the go-to firm for Cal/OSHA compliance and enforcement assistance,” says Aaron Gelb.

As for the familiar surname, Eric Conn explains:

“I have known and admired Rachel professionally for many years, so it was a special small-world moment when she married my cousin. That really makes this union of the East Coast and West Coast Conns of the OSHA world specially sweet.”

She is now a key member of the CMC family.

“We are all very excited to have her join us,” CMC’s Labor and Employment Chair Kara Maciel says. “We couldn’t ask for a better leader to help us expand in California.”
