Conn Maciel Carey LLP (“CMC”), a national boutique labor and employment law firm is pleased to announce that Letitia Silas has joined the firm as a Partner in its Washington, DC office.

Letitia is a seasoned labor attorney with a dynamic background that spans both the private and public sectors, including in-house, law firm, and government. Letitia most recently served as the Executive Director of Labor Relations for the University of California systemwide.  In that role, located in the Office of the President, Letitia provided the strategic vision and direction for the $36 billion enterprise and its 130,000+ union-represented employees across ten university campuses, five medical centers, national research laboratory, and other business units.

In private practice, Letitia’s experience includes representing private employers in traditional labor and collective-bargaining matters while at national labor and employment law firms Fisher Phillips (as a partner) and Jackson Lewis. She also developed and led the enterprise-wide labor relations vision and strategy for the Howard University, as its Sr. Labor Counsel and Director of Labor Relations.

Letitia started her career as an investigator and trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, honing her skills in both the Boston and DC regional offices.

“Letitia has a wealth of traditional labor experience having started her career at the National Labor Relations Board and Senior Labor Counsel and Director of Labor Relations at Howard University,” says CMC’s Labor and Employment Chair, Kara Maciel. “We expect clients to find her experience ‘on the inside’ to be an especially valuable skillset for external counsel. I am confident that our clients will love Letitia as she is incredibly enthusiastic and personable.”

At CMC, Letitia will continue to assist a diverse array of employers in effectively responding to today’s changing workplace realities, expectations, and demands with a solutions-based, practical approach to advice and counsel, strategic planning, training and policy and program development.

“Today’s dynamic, innovative, and diverse organizations require more than just legal representation; they need an attorney who understands their business needs and can serve as a trusted advisor, thought partner, and strategic counselor as they navigate the minefield of complex labor laws,” says Letitia. “I look forward to collaborating with businesses across various industries to develop strategies to engage employees, empower leaders, manage relationships with labor unions and other stakeholders, resolve disputes, and solidify their brand as an employer of choice.”

CMC’s Co-Managing Partner Aaron Gelb says, “I am thrilled to welcome such a prestigious and enthusiastic Partner to expand our labor law expertise. Letitia brings a unique and indispensable set of skills that will be instrumental in further advancing our well-established Labor and Employment Practice.
