Conn Maciel Carey Expands Workplace Safety and Labor and Employment Practices with the Addition of Former U.S. Department of Labor Attorney Scott Hecker

Conn Maciel Carey LLP (“CMC”), a national boutique Labor and Employment and OSHA/MSHA Workplace Safety law firm, is pleased to announce that Scott Hecker has joined the firm as a Senior Counsel in its Washington, DC office.

Scott brings to the firm nearly two decades of workplace safety and employment legal experience in both the public and private sectors. He worked at the U.S. Department of Labor for nearly a dozen years, not only as a trial and National Office attorney, but also as an agency manager, which provides him with a unique perspective on agency policy and enforcement. During his legal career, Scott has focused on building relationships across the spectrum of the Department of Labor, employers, and employee representatives to ensure open communication that informs prompt identification of concerns and efficient resolution to disputes.

The Chair of CMC’s national Labor and Employment Practice Kara M. Maciel, says “As the firm surpasses its 10th year in business, I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring to our team such a talented attorney. Scott’s experience at US DOL, with a specific focus on Wage and Hour, will add exceptional value to our premier Labor and Employment practice.”

Aaron Gelb, CMC’s Co-Managing Partner and Midwest Practice Chair, adds “Scott brings a fresh and sophisticated perspective to the myriad issues affecting businesses today. I look forward to working alongside him as he builds upon the firm’s sophisticated work in the areas of OSHA and MSHA law and Labor and Employment.”

Scott’s extensive resume includes supporting companies through counseling and litigation under numerous workplace statutes, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Service Contract Act, the Davis-Bacon and Related Acts, the Mine Safety and Health Act, and the Black Lung Benefits Act.

Chair of CMC’s national OSHA • Workplace Safety Practice Eric J. Conn, says “Scott represents another notable addition to our already deep bench of OSHA practitioners who previously served as counsel for OSHA or a State OSH Plan earlier in their careers. It sends a clear message that OSHA and the attorneys with the Solicitor of Labor’s office respect CMC, appreciate the way we represent employers, and admire the thoughtfulness and creativity of our practice.”

Before joining CMC, Scott worked at an international law firm, counseling and litigating on behalf of clients concerning workplace safety, wage and hour, child labor, government contracting/prevailing wage, and government relations and policy.

Scott looks forward to contributing to CMC’s established excellence in workplace safety and labor and employment, including through the expansion of the firm’s practices concerning clients’ wage-hour issues. He says, “my philosophy of open communication and partnership aligns with CMC’s approach to working with all interested parties to ensure the highest level of regulatory compliance and safety for employers’ workforces.”
